SPICE was set up in 2002 to teach children and young people with learning disabilities how to ice skate.

    Our regular Learn to skate sessions take place every Sunday morning at Slough Ice Arena between 11:00am and 11.45am. Young people, with a wide variety of social and/or learning difficulties (Down’s Syndrome. autistic spectrum disorders, ADHD) attend, along with siblings in many cases. Our hockey training commences at 11:45 -12:45, following our regular session.

    Professional coaches, who are supported by around 30 regular volunteers whose ages range from 10 to 65, lead the skating courses - all the volunteers are experienced skaters. In addition, SPICE offers an ice hockey programme and has currently the only additional needs synchronised skating team in the UK. The team was awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Synchronised Skating Championships in 2017. In 2019 an Inclusive Category was added to the British Synchronised Skating Championships in recognition of the achievements of Team SPICE and they have won Gold medals in the 2021 synchro season!
